2/7/17 Day School update
Day School Community-

EARLY RELEASE DAY......A reminder that Wednesday 2/8/17 is an early release day throughout the Westford Public Schools.  Day School students will be dismissed at 11:40 AM.  Lunch won't be served.  The Westford Partnership for Children (WPC) will have a "Superhero Spirit Day".  The Day School staff will participate in a presentation about student social and emotional health sponsored by NAMI (National Alliance for  Mental Illness) tomorrow afternoon.

Westford resident Mary Lovely is a survivor.  She and her cousin, Laura Perry, were both sexually abused by the same predatory family member.  Together, they created, "Say It, Survivor", an organization dedicated to helping others deal with the aftermath of abuse and reclaim their lives.  On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, Mary and Laura will present, "Sexual Abuse Prevention: Educated Parents, Empowered Kids", at 7:00 PM in the Stony Brook Middle School Auditorium.  In this powerful presentation, they share their stories, they say, shamelessly.  Their candor and compassion have helped countless people heal and empower themselves.  Parents and anyone who works with children are encouraged to come and educate themselves in order to protect the young people in their lives.  The event, hosted by the Westford Parent Connection, is free and open to the public, due to the generosity of our sponsors.  Due to anticipated inclement weather, the talk will now be held on Thursday, February 9.  For more information about Mary and Laura’s organization, go to  For details about the Westford Parent Connection, check out or contact Mary Anne Seraphin at

SPORTS CLUB.....Day School grade five teacher Laurie Hummer and Teacher Assistant Diane Nolan will coordinate and supervise the nine sessions for the Sports Club.  Thank you to Laurie and Diane for donating their valuable time.   A reminder that Friday 2/10/17 is the deadline to return completed permission to participate forms.

CLASSROOM CELEBRATION GUIDELINES.....In order to comply with the Westford Public School Wellness Policies, please use the following food plan: Please do not distribute goody bags or Valentine cards with candy. Candy cannot be used as part of classroom crafts.  All food items brought in to classroom parties must be in original packaging (pretzels, crackers or popcorn) with the exception of fruits and vegetables, which can be properly prepared prior to the party (i.e. Fruit on a Stick/fruit salad/veggie sticks).
Party food should not include any peanut butter, nuts or nut products since there are several children who are allergic to them.  This includes snacks that have been processed on equipment that processes peanuts/tree nuts.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS.....If you love to draw please consider entering the Anti-Tobacco Poster Contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS).  Twelve entries will be chosen for next year's calendar.  A 2017 calendar is hanging outside the clinic and you are welcome to flip through to see last year's winning entries.  Themes for Grades 3 & 4: Tobacco Affects Other People and Grade 5: Why I Won't Start Smoking.  Entry forms can be picked up at the clinic and are due back by Friday, February 17th.  Mrs. Carpenter will mail the entries in together in the package provided by the MMS.
