2/17/17 Day School update
Day School Community-

STAR READER.....A reminder that today will be the first drawing for the Day School STAR Reader program.  There will be 24 winners each of the four drawings.  After the drawing today the next three drawings will be on 3/3/17, 3/10/17 and 3/24/17.  After each drawing all completed STARS forms collected to that point will be discarded.  The school vacation is an ideal time to expand on the amount of reading students can complete.  The more a student reads, the more STARS coupons they can complete, which increases the chances of winning a free book!  Thank you to bllu Catalano and  Nancy DiNitto for coordinating this optional literacy activity for students.

YEARBOOK COVER CONTEST.....The deadline for the Yearbook Cover Contest has been extended!!  All grade five students are invited to complete submissions due to the Day School office no later than Wednesday, February 29th… get your creative juices flowing during the vacation week and submit a drawing for the contest!!

CHESS CLUB.....On Tuesday 2/14/17 the last Chess Club session was held.  This opportunity was made possible due to the efforts of Day School parent volunteer Mrs. Karen Cross.  We thank Karen for her willingness to lead the Chess Club, ability to organize all aspects of the club and do so in a manner that the participants had fun!

SPORTS CLUB.....The response for students to participate in the after-school Sports Club included 73 students.  The process used to identify the twenty five participants included:
A) Determining the total number of interested students per grade level
B) Selecting a percentage of students from each grade level based on grade level interest
C) Review of 16-17 Student Activity Participation (didn't count Band, Strings, Early Arrival Option or after-school Program (Westford Partnership for Children) data
D) Selecting students and giving priority to students that:
1) Non-participants and not selected for at least one Day School extended day activity
2) Non-participants in any activity
Day School grade five teacher Laurie Hummer and Teacher Assistant Diane Nolan will be the co-coordinators.  Therefore this eliminated the need to select student participants since a parent was willing to volunteer.

SCHOOL VACATION WEEK.....The February school vacation week is Monday 2/13/17 through Friday 2/24/17.  School returns to session on Monday 2/27/17.  Have a safe and enjoyable week!
