3/5/17 Day School update
Dear Day School Community-

HEALTH SERVICES…..The "Clinic" section of the Day School website has been updated with information about the return of the Auvi-Q epinephrine, as well as other news.  Thank you to School Nurse Cheryl Carpenter for updating this information and working so diligently to keep all members of our school community healthy and cared for!

ARTS & LITERATURE CLUB.....Club Coordinators bllu Catalano and Nish Foster are seeking monetary donations for supplies students so participants can fully and actively participate in this extended day activity.  A donation of $10 is suggested.  Please make any donation checks payable to: Norman E. Day School and place in the memo section: Arts & Lit. Club donation.  All of these donations should be forwarded to Day School Administrative Assistant Debi Deveny.  Thank you for your consideration!

2017-2018 STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS.....All six Westford elementary schools will communicate student assignments for the 2017-2018 school year on the last day of school.  This will occur for students currently in grades Kindergarten through grade four.  This doesn't apply for students transitioning to middle school.  The Parent Portal in IPass will have the teacher assignment the last day of school or soon after.

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL.....The next meeting of the School Advisory Council is Tuesday 3/7/17 from 6:00-7:30 PM.  Since this group is governed by the Open Meeting Law any parents of Day School students are welcomed to attend.  The first ten minutes of all School Council members.  If you have a question, concern or want to learn more about the work of the School Council please attend.  The meeting agenda is:

STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS.....For the past many years at Westford Annual Town Meeting an extensive listing of Student & Staff accomplishments has been distributed to attendees.  The purpose of this document is to reference and celebrate the many great accomplishments of students and staff in our school district.  This year Town Meeting will be held on Saturday 3/25/17.  Kindly get your ideas for this document to me no later than Wednesday 3/15/17.  I appreciate your input and even reminders about all of the excellent work and results your child (recognition, volunteer work, participation in event, etc.) have accomplished.  

MARCH PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES.....Tomorrow the March Parent/Teacher Conference Forms will be distributed to all students.  Please return these forms completed no later than Friday 3/10/17.

STAFF DINNER…..In an effort to maintain the tradition of providing a dinner for teachers on the evening of parent/teacher conferences (Thursday 3/30/17 from 5:00-6:30 PM in the Day School Cafeteria) I'm seeking any interested and available parent (s) who can either share or coordinate this offering.  In November 2016 parents Natasha Sass and Karl Vogel (Manager at Panera Bread in Westford) did a phenomenal job organizing, setting-up and providing a delicious and abundant meal for staff.  If interested in this opportunity or you'd like more information about this possibility please email me at: kregan@westfordk12.us.  I sincerely appreciate your consideration of this opportunity for staff members.

MATH CLUBS.....Each of the grade level Math Clubs will be completing the Online Math League Contest this week at the respective Math Club meetings as follows:
A) Monday 3/6/17- Grade five from 2:30-3:45 PM
B) Tuesday 3/7/17- Grade four from 2:30-3:45 PM
C) Wednesday 3/8/17- Grade three from 2:30-3:45 PM
If your child is unable to attend the specific session to complete the Math contest please let me know and I'll work with your child to offer a makeup session during the school day.

MATH PARENT INFORMATION NIGHTS.....District mathematics Curriculum Coordinators, Miss McHugh and Mrs. O'Gorman, will be holding informational meetings for parents in grades 4-7 to communicate the Math placement process. These meetings are scheduled for March 13 at 6:30 PM at Stony Brook School and March 15 at 6:30 PM at Abbot School.

TWO LITER SODA BOTTLES.....One of the most popular Grade Five Camp activities is Stomp Rockets, which uses A LOT of  two liter plastic bottles.  We've started to collect them now to be sure students aren't disappointed the week of Camp.  There is collection box in the Day School front lobby for this purpose.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!

WESTFORD SUMMER MUSIC PROGRAM.....The Westford Summer Music program is now accepting registrations for instrumental and choral music students entering grades 5 through 9.  Band, chorus, and orchestra ensembles will rehearse daily from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Stony Brook School on July 10th through July 14th.  During the week, the students will prepare new music and give a free performance on Friday, July 14th at 11:00 AM.
Summer Band directed by Ms. Vicki Garino, Blanchard and Stony Brook Band Director
Summer Chorus directed by Mrs. Karen St. George, WA vocal director
Summer Orchestra directed by Mr. Todd Hamelin, Abbot and Day Schools string director
