6/11/17 Day School news
Dear Day School Community-

SCHOOL PLAYGROUND.....Last week we dismantled the existing main Day School play structure.  The main play structure had two inoperable slides, significant aging of other play apparatus, was well as lacking handicap accessibility.  Before any student sustained an injury we removed all apparatus from that area.  On Thursday 6/15/17 diagrams of the new playground will be unveiled at the Day School cook-out.  At this time we are fundraising to be able to purchase at least most of the play structure we want to install.  Stay tuned for more information about fundraising activities.  Currently there isn't a timeline for installation of a new playground since we don't have the funds to purchase the play equipment desired.

FIELD DAY.....On Tuesday 5/23/17 all Day School students participated in a very successful annual activity called Field Day.  This school-wide activity was developed with a theme of Superheroes.  I was honored to be recognized as a "Retiring Superhero", complete with shirt screened with "Retired Superhero", cape and mask.  An easy decision was to wear these special gifts the remainder of the day.  The event was highly successful for three reasons:  students had fun, the amazing response of so many parents and their willingness to volunteer, and last yet not least Wellness Teacher Erin Claycomb's fabulous planning of the theme, stations, equipment and many other details to have such an enjoyable event for our students.  A sincere thank you to all parents and community members who volunteered their time to work at a station, supervise students at lunch, donate and purchase freeze pops (thank you to Natasha Sass for her generosity!), as well as set-up and pick-up the equipment and supplies needed at the eighteen stations.  It was a marvelous day that created many happy memories for students.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS.....On Monday 6/12/17 students will participate by grade levels in stations that include: biking (use of scooters), swimming (water relay with running), hula hoops, walk/run, volleyball and basketball.  The time schedule will be:
A) 8:35-10:10 AM- Grade five
B) 10:00-11:50 AM- Grade four
C) 12:30-2:20 PM- Grade three
The weather is forecasted to be very warm.  I suggest the following attire for all students: shorts, t-shirt, sneakers (not sandals of any type) and hat.  Students should bring a non-breakable container (label with name) to school for water.  Of the six stations five are outdoors and one is indoors.  There will be 2.5 gallon water tapers outdoors that students can use to fill their containers with water.  There will be plastic cups that students can use who don't have a water bottle.
