Weekly Update September 1
Weekly Update
Friday, September 1, 2017

Hello Day School Community,

It was so exciting to see all returning and new Day School students. Our school opening began with a flag raising ceremony, pledge, and singing of the national anthem. Here are the opening remarks I delivered to the students on their first day of school:
“Good morning Day School students! I hope you are ready for an amazing school year. I canít wait to see you what you will accomplish. Just remember that whatever you do, give it your very best effort. Roald Dahl once said, “Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy itís unbelievable.” So get ready to surprise the world with your amazing talents and creativity. Be the best you can be and remember all of your teachers are ready to help you reach your dreams. Have a great first day of school!”

We certainly do have some amazing students in this school community. I canít wait to celebrate their talents throughout the school year.

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal
Norman E. Day Elementary School

Car Drop-Off/Pick-Up
Thank you for your patience with drop-off/pick-up procedures. Unfortunately, our parking lot was not designed for drop-offs and pick-ups when the school was built in 1965. Our principal aides are working hard to make sure your children are safely delivered in timely fashion.

You must most form two lines once you enter the school parking lot from East Prescott Street. The principal aide will direct one car at a time to pull up to the cones. Please remain in your car while we assist your child. Do not move or pass other vehicles until you are given a signal. Please prominently display your Vehicle Identification Cards so we may identify your children quickly. At the end of the day, the principal aide will direct your child to your car.

Let us know if your have any comments or concerns.

Day School Playground Update
We are really excited about the plans for our new playground that we project will be constructed in late spring/summer of 2018. We want to make sure we are following universal design principles so the playground is accessible for all including students who have mobility challenges or visual impairments. We will make sure the materials used for the surface are environmentally friendly and safe for children. Because the proposed site is close to Reed Brook, there will be an application and review process with the Westford Conservation Commission.

If you are interested in joining the fundraising committee, please contact Kevin Regan by emailing kevinregan0623@gmail.com or call: 978-846-0691. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 14 @3:30PM in the Day School Conference Room.
