Weekly Update
Friday, December 1, 2017

Dear Parents,

We are almost ready to reveal the design for the new playground that will be installed in September of 2018. Our playground will have universal design features including an accessible surface, paths, and ramps for students with mobility challenges. The structure will also feature high contrast elevation changes and borders for visually impaired students. The playground will likely include a main play structure with multiple slides, a dual track zipline, swing set, geodesic dome, Spinsanity elements, and a fitness center. We also excited to have a shade structure with picnic tables so students have opportunities to play games, build Lego structures, read a book, or have conversations. Stay tuned for an opportunity to view the project boards and meet the landscape architect when we unveil the complete renderings of our new playground.

Below you will find many new opportunities to donate to our playground. Our restaurant fundraiser for the month of December will be the 99 Restaurant. Kevin Regan and our fundraising team will be at the Westford Academy holiday bazaar selling commemorative bricks and offering raffle tickets for 8 amazing baskets. I appreciate every dime that is contributed to make our new playground a reality. Thank you very much for your continued support!

Note from the Nurse
As we enter the cold and flu season I would like to offer a couple of reminders.
  • Per WPS policy children should be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medicines (Tylenol/Advil), before returning to school.
  • A good rule of thumb after vomiting and/or diarrhea is to keep your child home for a day after the last episode.
  • The school clinic does not stock cough and cold medicines. If you would like your child to receive cough drops or other over-the-counter medicines, they can be sent to the clinic along with a permission note from a parent.
  • All medicines are to be kept in the clinic per WPS policy. The exception being those children who have permission to carry their inhaler/Epipen.
  • Please continue to reinforce proper hand washing, and coughing/sneezing into their elbow at home.
Hopefully all of us will enjoy a healthier winter season! Thank you! :)

One Book One School
We would like to thank everyone who donated to our One Book One School program.  With the craziness of December, we will be starting the program in January when we return from break.  The title of the book will be revealed to the students and staff at that time. We look forward to an exciting experience sharing the love of reading as a school community.  Thank you for your support and patience.
