Weekly Update February 9
Weekly Update
Friday, February 9, 2018

Dear parents,

At the Day School, we highly value a whole child approach to learning. This means in addition to focusing on traditional academics, teachers and staff make it a priority to make sure every student is healthy, physically and emotionally safe, supported, engaged, and challenged. Each staff member takes the time to make sure students know they are valued and respected members of the Day School community.

We take the time to make sure learning is fun and engaging. This week, Mrs. Hummer and Mrs. Lapham’s classes prepared for the upcoming Winter Olympics by researching winter sports and athletes. Culminating activities included winter Olympics games right in the classroom. Imagine the fun of walking into Mrs. Hummer’s class and seeing fifth graders competing in a speed skating competition by sliding across the “ice” on two paper plates. I even got involved in a hilarious curling competition in Mrs. Lapham’s class. I wish my own fifth grade experience was half as much fun.

We believe students who enjoy coming to school will be more engaged and ready to learn. Students who feel connected to their classroom teacher and their peers will inevitably be more successful. When you hear laughter in a classroom at the Day School, you know for sure the best learning is taking place.
